Our Story

The Rho-Nu Chapter of Kappa Sigma was chartered at The University of Texas at Tyler in 2023 with a clear goal: to build a fraternity that leads through brotherhood, service, and accountability.

Though we are a young chapter, we have worked quickly to establish ourselves as one of the most active and high-performing student organizations on campus. Our brotherhood is built on the values of fellowship, leadership, scholarship, and service, and we believe those values should show up in more than just words. They should be seen in the way we serve our community, support one another, and represent UT Tyler.

This year, Rho-Nu was recognized nationally with the Founders’ Circle Award, given to the top 2% of Kappa Sigma chapters, along with the Founders’ Award of Chapter Excellence. For a chapter chartered in 2023, these honors reflect the commitment, work ethic, and standard our brothers have built from the ground up.

In the past year, our chapter has raised more than $43,000 for charitable causes, including our national philanthropy, the Military Heroes Campaign, which supports veterans and military-focused organizations. Through events like our Veterans Benefit Car Show with Hazelwood Car Shows, campus service projects, and community partnerships, we aim to make a real impact beyond ourselves.

We are also committed to building a stronger campus community. From pizza study nights at the library to Christmas tree lighting events, recruitment, philanthropy, and student engagement, our chapter works to create spaces where students can connect, feel supported, and be part of something meaningful.

What makes Rho-Nu special is not just what we have accomplished, but how quickly our brothers have bought into the mission. We are still building our legacy, and that gives every member the opportunity to shape what this chapter becomes.

At Rho-Nu, fraternity is not just about joining an organization. It is about becoming part of a brotherhood that challenges you to grow, serve, lead, and leave something better than you found it.

Grand Master

Josue Funez

Brother Funez is in his last semester at UT Tyler. He will graduate with a degree in Accounting and begin a career in private lending. Along with being honored with UT Tyler’s Greek of the Year, Josue led Rho-Nu to its second-ever F.A.C.E. Award and first Founders Circle Award. He also serves as Vice President of Finance for UT Tyler’s interfraternal council and is an active member of the Minorities in Business student organization. He finds his balance through fishing and cooking. As Grand Master, his focus is on creating systems in the chapter that will build a legacy and continue to allow the chapter to excel after he graduates.

Dominic Robinette

Brother Robinette is a Junior Electrical Engineering major. On campus, Dominic serves as a Student Transition Coordinator in the Orientation Office, where he assists with coordinating and administering orientation programs and oversees student engagement initiatives. In his free time, he volunteers as a Student Leader at Boathouse Ministries. As Grand Scribe, he hopes to improve the efficiency and professionalism of chapter leadership by fostering stronger internal communication, effective leadership practices, and organized chapter operations.

Brother Witt is a Business Administration major with a minor in Economics. He has started his career in marketing and is currently working at a local marketing agency in Tyler. Outside of Kappa Sigma, Nathan is a student leader on campus, serving as Executive Vice President of UT Tyler’s interfraternal council. He uses his free time to develop a 501(c)3 nonprofit he founded in 2020. Through his role in the chapter, he hopes to help strengthen the connection between active brothers, alumni, and donors who believe in the future of Rho-Nu.

Nathan Witt

Brother Downing is an Accounting major in his final semester. After college, he will pursue a career in forensic accounting. During his tenure as Grand Treasurer, Sebastian has overseen the creation of the Fundraising Chair position and helped increase the chapter’s cash reserve by 200%. He has worked to formalize the business side of Rho-Nu. In his final semester, his goal is to build a financial foundation that will serve the chapter well beyond his time in office.

Brother Vanderslice is a Junior in the Nursing track at UT Tyler. Cadun is a student leader on campus, currently serving his third year as a Resident Assistant. He balances his work/school life with a dedication to fitness and exercise. His goal as Grand Scribe is to strengthen brotherhood and foster a deeper sense of community within the chapter. Looking ahead, he is committed to helping position Rho-Nu for sustained success and continued recognition at the highest levels of Kappa Sigma.
